The goal for this part-sun and shade backyard was to create a peaceful space full of ferns, color, and blooms
Working within the yard’s light and space constraints, we delivered a beautiful, terrace-styled shade garden. Along the shady, tiered walls in back we planted perennials that thrive in lower light, while still bringing a beautiful array of shapes, colors and textures. Cool-toned, flowering geranium, balloon flower, and veronica catch the eye and calm the mind, set off with the help of lush, green ferns and warm-toned coral bells, astilbe, and coleus. Around the patio, a sunnier spot became home to a sweet, cottage style garden popping with color. We used salvia, yarrow, giant and dwarf zinnias, vinca, catmint, angelonia, and snapdragons to ensure a pretty mix of pinks and purples.
